David McGee Carmines (1977-2001) was born and grew up on Hilton Head, the son of Brian and Gloria Carmines, the
owners of Hudsons Seafood Restaurant. He attended local schools through the 9th grade, graduated from The
Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA and from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee with a Bachelor
of Science Degree (Geology). He loved the outdoors and from an early age focused that passion on mountain
climbing, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, surfing, skiing, and kayaking. He was a Kayak instructor/tour guide at
Outside Hilton Head, and worked at West Bank Angler, in Houston, Texas and also at The Sun Valley Resort in Idaho.
He also loved music and was an accomplished guitar, banjo, and mandolin player.

David presented with 3rd stage non-testicular germ cell carcinoma in December, 1998, and for the next 30 months
courageously fought this disease through numerous surgeries and chemotherapy and radiation regimens. He died at
the M.D.Anderson Oncology Center in Houston, Texas on March 10, 2001.

He was truly an exemplary young man much beloved by his family and his enormous circle of friends with whom he
kept in close contact by e-mail throughout his fight with cancer, always closing his letters with “Keep the Faith”.
