HILTON HEAD SEAFOOD FESTIVAL Presented by Coligny Plaza and the David M. Carmines Memorial Foundation
On April 25, 2009 Coligny Plaza and the David M. Carmines Memorial Foundation will be hosting a Hilton Head Island Seafood Fest, benefiting the American Cancer Society, M. D. Anderson Cancer Research Center, and the Island Recreation Scholarship Fund.
The Festival will take place from 11 AM – 5 PM at Shelter Cove Community Park and will include twelve island restaurants serving their seafood specialties. The best local and regional seafood will be available for tasting. We will also have live entertainment by Gemini Junction, Lost In The Media, Low Country Boil Bluegrass Band.
In the 1980’s, as part of Spring Fest, Seafood Fest was an eagerly anticipated event each year. The resurrection of this event promises to be even more successful, due to the increased number of quality dining establishments on the Island, and the increased awareness of seafood as an organic, healthy dietary option. All beverage sales, restaurant purveyor fees, artists fees and silent auction funds will benefit the M. D. Anderson Cancer Research Center, the American Cancer Association, and the Island Recreation Scholarship Fund.

IRON CHEF COMPETITION: Up to 8 local chefs will compete in this event modeled after the TV show of the same name. Competing chefs will be presented with identical “mystery baskets” containing various ingredients including two (2) core local seafood ingredients, and will be allotted 1 hour to create an appetizer and an entrée. These finished plates will be judged by a panel on creativity, composition, taste, and presentation. Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the winner, and 1st and 2nd runner up. Chef Crawford Campbell from Shrimp Michael's and Chef Trish Taylor from Stripes - An American Grill are among the first chefs to enter the competition. Ron Andrews, President of the Low Country Chapter of the American Culinary Federation is assisting with competition logistics and organization. Ron has competed in numerous Iron Chef competitions, and will serve as one of the event judges. If you are interested in signing up for the “Iron Chef” competition, call Andrew Carmines at 681-2772 ext 137 or 422-6331.
SILENT AUCTION: The silent auction will be bigger and better this year. Last years winning bidders dined out on the island, had a chef prepare a 4 course meal for their friends, did a wine tour in Sonoma County, had a week long stay at Daufuskie Island Resort and Breathe Spa, among other things. This is truly a great way to find bargains and give to charity.
